58 minutes had elapsed, and the Argonauts had not scored even one touchdown…that is, until Jeff Johnson scored on a one-yard run to give the Argonauts a 25-24 lead over the Stampeders; Cleo Lemon found Chad Owens in the end zone on the two-point convert to extend Toronto’s lead to three points at 27-24. On the ensuing series, the Stampeders turned the ball over on downs.

The Argos scored the other 19 points off four Grant Shaw field goals, a Grant Shaw single, and three safeties (the CFL record for most safeties in a game is four).

Toronto quarterback Cleo Lemon completed 18 of 37 passes for 187 yards, throwing a pass to Calgary’s Brandon Browner. Running back Cory Boyd ran the ball twenty times for 142 yards.

Calgary’s Henry Burris went 20-of-40 passing for 207 yards and three touchdowns: one to Nik Lewis, one to Romby Bryant, and one to Deon Murphy. However, Burris threw four interceptions: two to Kevin Eiben, one to Willie Pile, and one to Evan McCollough; it was the first time Burris threw four interceptions in a game since 2000, and he nearly threw a 5th on Calgary’s last drive.

Stampeders kicker Rob Maver kicked a 21-yard field goal and made three converts in the game.

Both teams now stand at 2-1 on the season.

Calgary Stampeders 23 Hamilton Tiger-Cats 22

Rob Maver’s third field goal of the game from 23 yards out gave Calgary its 23rd point of the game; it was just enough to beat the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and improve to 2-0 on the season. Maver, a 24-year old from Brampton, Ontario, was selected 5th overall in the 2010 draft to replace Sandro DeAngelis, who now plays for…the Tiger-Cats.

“Every single day, before I go to play a game, I mentally prepare myself to win it with a kick,” said Maver. “It’s fun to go do that.” Maver also connected on field goals from 24 and nine yards out.

Hamilton’s Marcus Thigpen scored the first points of the game on a 93-yard punt return in the first quarter. Romby Bryant’s 17-yard touchdown catch from Henry Burris leveled the score at seven apiece. Sandro DeAngelis added a 35-yard missed field goal single to give the Tiger-Cats an 8-7 lead after the first quarter.

Markeith Knowlton blocked a Burke Dales punt and recovered the ball on the Stampeders’ 25-yard line; that led to a 42-yard field goal by DeAngelis. Mavers kicked a 24-yard field goal while Hamilton punter Justin Palardy added a 79-yard punt single to give the Tiger-Cats a 12-10 lead. Thigpen scored his second touchdown of the game on a 33-yard pass from Kevin Glenn. Maver’s second field goal of the game brought Calgary to within six points at 19-13 heading into halftime.

The lone points of the third quarter were scored when Nik Lewis reeled in a 15-yard pass from Henry Burris to give the Stampeders a 20-19 lead.

The two football clubs traded field goals late in the 4th quarter. DeAngelis converted on a 21-yarder with 1:10 left in the game, but a 59-yard Calgary drive set up Maver’s winning kick.

DeAngelis had a chance to win the game even after Maver’s third kick of the day, but the 59-yard field goal was blocked, preserving Calgary’s one-point victory.

Hamilton’s Kevin Glenn completed 26 of 34 passes for 356 yards and the one touchdown to Marcus Thigpen. Stampeders quarterback Henry Burris went 24-of-37 passing for 257 yards and the two touchdowns. Burris also threw a pass to Hamilton’s Jason Shivers.

Saskatchewan Roughriders 37 B.C. Lions 18

Darian Durant completed 18 of 29 passes for 252 yards and one touchdown to lift the Roughriders to a 37-18 victory over the B.C. Lions; Durant also carried the ball 4 times for 33 yards, scoring once on a 14-yard run. Prechae Rodriguez caught five passes for 58 yards and was the recipient of a 4-yard touchdown pass from Durant.

Roughriders running back Wes Cates ran the ball 14 times for 86 yards, scoring one touchdown from two yards out.

Luca Congi made all three of his field goal attempts from 31, 28, and 32 yards out; Congi also made four converts in the game.

It was the first regular-season game at Empire Field in Vancouver, and it wasn’t a good one for the B.C. Lions, whose offense often struggled on second down. In addition, Lions quarterback Casey Printers was injured late in the first half after being sacked by Saskatchewan’s Brent Hawkins; Travis Lulay took over quarterbacking duties.

Printers finished the game 10-of-14 passing for 120 yards and one touchdown to Geroy Simon. Lulay went 9-of-14 passing for 197 yards and also one touchdown to Simon.

Lions kicker Paul McCallum made a 16-yard field goal and added a 45-yard single.

With a 29-21 victory over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, the Edmonton Eskimos became the first West Division team to win a playoff game as a crossover team since the CFL implemented the crossover rule in 1996.

Edmonton quarterback Ricky Ray completed 27 of 37 passes for 303 yards. However, it was A.J. Harris who found the endzone for Edmonton; Harris carried the ball 13 times for 33 yards, finding the Winnipeg goal area twice.

As for Winnipeg, Kevin Glenn completed 15 of 34 passes for 233 yards, throwing one touchdown to Romby Bryant. However, Glenn threw a pass to Edmonton’s Fred Perry.

Noel Prefontaine converted on 2 of 4 field goal attempts, hitting from 23 and 28 yards out. He also scored singles off a missed 38-yard field goal and a punt.

Edmonton will play the Montreal Alouettes in the East Final, which will be played next Saturday at 12 PM EST on TSN and TSN HD. The two teams played twice this year, with each team winning one game. Montreal won 40-4 at home in late September while Edmonton won 37-14 on October 31.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers used their last game of the season to prepare for next Saturday’s game against the Edmonton Eskimos. The 24,595 at Canad Inns Stadium witnessed the Bombers beat the Hamilton Tiger-Cats by a score of 44 to 30.

With this win, Winnipeg finished the season at 8-10 while Hamilton equalled last year’s record of 3-15.

Bombers quarterback Kevin Glenn completed 11 of 14 passes for 166 yards, throwing two touchdowns to Romby Bryant. Bryan Randall came into the game late in the second quarter. Randall finished the game going 6-of-12 for 61 yards.

As for Hamilton, Casey Printers completed 6 of 16 passes for 131 yards and one touchdown to Eddie Cohen, but threw a pass to the Winnipeg defense. Printers, who rolled his ankle in the 3rd quarter, was replaced by rookie Adam Tafralis, who went 15-of-29 for 197 yards and two touchdowns to Kenton Keith and Chris Davis. However, Tafralis also threw a pass to the Bombers defense.

Behind five touchdown passes from Henry Burris, the Calgary Stampeders defeated the Winnipeg Blue Bombers by a score of 37 to 16. Burris, who completed 28 of 36 passes during the game, threw for 337 yards as the Stampeders improved to 11-5 on the season. Calgary can secure a home playoff game if they defeat the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in Ivor Wynne Stadium next Friday.

Even though they fell to 6-10 on the season, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers clinched 2nd in the East by virtue of a Toronto loss to the Montreal Alouettes.

Kevin Glenn had a horrid day for Winnipeg, completing just 6 of 13 passes for 33 yards. Ryan Dinwiddie played as quarterback for Winnipeg in the 2nd half, going 5-of-12 for 61 yards, throwing one touchdown pass to Romby Bryant.
Doug Berry, Winnipeg Blue Bombers head coach, decided to bench Kevin Glenn and start backup QB Ryan Dinwiddie, whose only other start in the CFL came in last year’s Grey Cup, which resulted in a 23-19 victory for the Sasktachewan Roughriders. However, Dinwiddle was not to be denied not only his first career win, but also the first win for his team this season.

In front of 26,882 fans at Canad Inns Stadium in WInnipeg, Dinwiddie would complete 24 of 39 passes for 450 yards and one touchdown en route to a 32-28 victory over the Calgary Stampeders, who fell to 3-2 on the season. The one touchdown Dinwiddie threw for came with twelve seconds left in the game; Romby Bryant was the receipient of Dinwiddie’s 35-yard winning touchdown as well as five other catches for 117 yards.

After the game, Dinwiddie said, “I’m excited, but at the same time right now I’m like, shoot, it’s over with. I’m thinking about Toronto. We’ve got to do it again next week, so it was good to get a win and get some smiles around here in the locker-room on everybody’s faces, things like that, but at the same time it’s over and done with now.” Dinwiddie is expected to start next Friday against the Toronto Argonauts.

It appeared that the Stampeders would pull off the victory after Jermaine Copeland caught a six-yard touchdown pass from Henry Burris with 48 seconds left in the game, but Dinwiddie’s last-minute drive pulled the Bombers back out in front in the last seconds of the contest.

Burris would finish the day 31-of-44 for 386 yards, three touchdowns and one interception.
