Atlanta Braves Acquire Derrek Lee

The Atlanta Braves have made a move today acquiring first basemen Derrek Lee from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for three pitching prospects Robinson Lopez, Tyrelle Harris and Jeffrey Lorick.

“It just felt right,” Lee said. “The main thing, though, is that we have six weeks to go. Atlanta is in first place. They’re playing great baseball. The chance to go to the postseason — it’s hard to pass up.”

In 109 games this season Lee has a .251 average with 16 home runs and 56 runs batted in. This is the second attempt for Chicago in trading Lee as he vetoed a trade to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim earlier in the season using his rights as a 10-and-5 player. Lee is set to become a free agent at the end of the season.
