Another update coming in from the baseball universe.

-Indians Beat Writer Paul Hoynes is reporting that the St. Louis Cardinals are likely to end up swinging a deal for Indians pitcher Jake Westbrook by this afternoon’s deadline.

-No details have been released on the deal as of yet, but the move could prove influential down the stretch for the Cardinals. Westbrook is scheduled to make his start with the Tribe today, and is in the clubhouse as we speak.

-Jake is sporting a 4.65 ERA with a 6-7 line alongside 73 strikeouts. He is scheduled to make over $5 million more over the rest of his contract including his base salary and incentives.

-In addition, many different sources expect the Washington Nationals to make a fourth quarter attempt to deal outfielder Adam Dunn. Earlier today it was said that the likelihood of a deal was “less than 50/50″, but it is said that several teams have decided to make a last-minute attempt at the slugger.
