MLB Trade Deadline Rumor Alert: Snyder on the Move, Mets May Deal for Pitching

by Jon Alba on Saturday, July 31st, 2010

In our first rumor update of the day, we have some important news to report.

-Jon Morosi is reporting that the Arizona Diamondbacks have agreed in principle to send catcher Chris Snyder to the Pirates. It is unsure of who the Pirates will send back in return.

-Snyder, 29, has spent his entire career with the Diamondbacks. He enters the trade with a .231 average, 10 home runs, and 32 runs batted in.

-Various reports have stated the Mets were involved with two separate offers last night, for Cubs pitcher Carlos Zambrano and for Astros now-ace Brett Myers.

-In the Zambrano deal, the Mets offered troubled starter Oliver Perez and contract-swallower second baseman Luis Castillo. This was turned down by the Cubs, however, due to the over $17 million that Big Z is left to make in his current deal.

-As for Myers, the Astros presented the idea of the Mets sending over Bobby Parnell and Josh Thole, but New York would not bite.

-Another thing to keep an eye on is a possible Octavio Dotel deal to the Mets as well. The Pirates reportedly asked for prospect Robert Carson, but were told to keep trying at it.

We’ll have more throughout the day, so stay tuned!
