After the Game 7 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers, it seemed that Doc Rivers would no longer be the head coach of the Boston Celtics. Contrary to initial speculations, Doc Rivers will, in fact, return to coach the Celtics for a seventh season.
“I’m coming back,” said Rivers. “I want another crack at it with this group.” Rivers has one year left on his contract.
“Doc is excited to come back and coach our team next year,” said Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge. “He feels rejuvenated about coaching this group next season.”
Rivers initially wanted to take some time off from coaching to spend more time with his family.
However, with Paul Pierce and Ray Allen set to become free agents in a few hours, this may be a much different Celtics team than the one that made it to the NBA Finals earlier this month.
