With a little over three months left in the major stages of the demolition of Yankee Stadium, we have received some pretty substantial pictures today. Let us begin.
As one can tell, a lot has occurred since our last update in the middle of January.
The entire back portion of the stadium no longer exists. This includes the scoreboard, video screen, bleachers, the “black seats”, and any advertisements that were once there. All that is left is the small support system which is partially a remnant of the pre-1973 design, and anyone standing on a nearby building or road can clearly see the inside of the stadium.
This picture clearly displays that the upper deck is being cut into sections and being taken down from there. The exterior however will remain, alongside Gate 2 (for now). If all this continues at this pace, it would not be surprising to see most of the demolition actually finish by May, as it is following a similar path to that of the late Shea Stadium.
For those who had a love for this ballpark, or even if they absolutely despised it, please take in these pictures. These are undoubtedly some of the last images we’ll be seeing before it becomes almost unrecognizable.
