Earlier today, the Seattle Seahawks fired Jim Mora Jr as the head coach.  The move comes after just one season, in which the team finished a third-place-worthy 5-11.

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen has received a report stating that the Seahawks will now target USC Trojans head coach Pete Carroll to take the helm in Seattle.

Pete Carroll is the guy Seahawks are targeting. It is expected to happen, according to sources. Just reported to ESPN 10 minutes ago.

-Carroll has been a head coach in the NFL before, as he served as the head coach of the New England Patriots from 1997-1999. In addition, he was the Jets head coach for one season in 1994.

-Alongside, he spent more than fifteen years in the NFL as various different types of coaches.

-As the lead in USC, Carroll has led the school to two BCS National Championship Game appearances, winning one of them.

-The Trojans also were awarded a share of the 2003 national title despite not appearing in the championship game.

-Overall, Pete is 97-17 at USC, with seven bowl wins to back his resume.

Though it is too early to speculate, it would appear the Seahawks may have a strong hold on Carroll.  It is an appealing division to play in, as it is usually one of the weakest.  Also, it is relatively close to California, where Carroll currently resides.

The Trojans defeated Boston College 24-13 in the Emerald Bowl this past season, in what may be Carroll’s last game at Southern Cal.
