Tiger Woods Named Top Athlete of Decade
More Tiger? Seriously? What did he do this time?
Nothing…except for being selected as the Athlete of the Decade by The Associated Press.
Yes the last three weeks of his life probably garnered the most media attention, which primarily focuses on negative publicity, but ten years is over 170 times the length of a fortnight-and-a-half! What has happened this past decade for the world’s #1 golfer?
Well he’s won 64 times around the world, including twelve major championships. He has also won a tournament in every continent (except for Antarctica, even though some people play golf there). Only four other golfers have done what Tiger has accomplished this decade alone: 56 PGA Tour victories.
Woods received just as many of the 142 votes cast by AP member editors in the past month. More than half of the votes were cast after his November car accident in Florida.
Lance Armstrong, who won the Tour De France a total of six times this decade, finished in second place with 33 votes. Roger Federer, who won more Grand Slam singles titles than any other tennis player, took the bronze with 25 votes. Michael Phelps, Tom Brady, and Usain Bolt finished 4th, 5th, and 6th, respectively.
Interesting he was named this after it appears he possibly was using HGH and PED’s
