NBA Nightly Recap: December 29, 2009

Bucks 84, Bobcats 94: Gerald Wallace and the Bobcats picked up win #12 on the year with a great performance from Gerald Wallace. Wallace scored 21 points, and grabbed 14 rebounds. The Bobcats didn’t allow the Bucks to have much of a chance in the second quarter. Charlotte was up by as much as 24, and gave the home crowd something to cheer about.

Thunder 105, Nets 89: Kevin Durant displayed why he should be in consideration for the MVP award. Durant dominated the league’s worst team, and dropped 40 at the IZOD Center. The Nets were completely overpowered by the Thunder, and no part of this game showed any promise for the 2-29 New Jersey team. Yi Jianlian’s effort of 29 points and 7 rebounds was killed by a good counter of Nenad Krstic and Nick Collison. The only stat that makes me scratch my head is that the Thunder won this game, and went 0 for 12 from beyond the arc.

Wizards 111, Grizzlies 116 (OT): A high scoring affair at the Forum led to over time between two not so great teams. Washington’s Antawn Jamison tried, so did Agent Zero. However, the Wizards allowed four Grizzlies to score 20+ points. The inside battle was clearly won by Memphis, and the Grizzlies are playing like they care. The Wizards dropped their nineteenth loss, and go home tomorrow to play against OKC.

Lakers 103, Phoenix 118: For the first time this season, the Lakers lost a game while scoring 100+ points. The Suns were way too much for Los Angeles, who benched Kobe for the last eight minutes of the game. The Suns got a must needed win, if they want to continue towards a playoff spot in the western conference. Stoudemire led the Suns with 26, and Nash put in a double-double with 16 points and 13 assists. Before being benched, Kobe went off for 34, but when you play the Suns, make sure everyone is gong, or you are in trouble.

76ers 104, Trail Blazers 93: The struggling Philadelphia Sixers beat the Blazers at home, and did so with a good performance from Elton Brand. The Sixers dominated the second half, and Brand went off for 25 points. Portland, who has faced injury troubles, had Brandon Roy leading the team with 24, but that couldn’t help Portland much. Five Sixers scored in double figures, and injuries gave Sixers an edge down low.

Nuggets 101, Kings 106: The Nuggets slipped yet again on the road, and this time to the Sacramento Kings. Sacramento’s Andres Nocioni lit up Denver, hitting 4 out of 5 three-pointers, and backed by the King’s starting line up. Melo and Nene tried getting things going, but with only eight players, the Nuggets fell, and now stand at 20-12. Thankfully for the Nuggets, the Blazers tripped up against the Sixers.

Celtics 99, Warriors 103: A team that requires a great night from Monta Ellis, picked up the “W’ against Boston. This is huge for Golden State, who had to play catch up against the Celtics. This was the upset of the night, and the Celtics were handed their second loss in a row. With Don Nelson’s coaching job at stake, Golden State success will keep the big guy in Oakland. Only time will tell if the Warriors can pull together some more wins this season.
