Week 7 College Football Preview
As the College Football Season hits the half-way point, teams are starting to fight for BCS Bowls and maybe a shot for the National Championship.
Teams are getting deeper into their conference schedules and begin to find out whether they are contenders or pretenders in their respective conference.
The most intriguing conference games include teams located in the top 10. #2 Alabama is home to #22 South Carolina in SEC play and the obvious Red River Rivalry between Texas and Oklahoma will also have Big 12 Championship implications. Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech will also go at it in ACC play.
Lets take a look at the upcoming weekends big games and how I think these games will pan out.
Arkansas @ #1 Florida - As much as Ryan Mallett has surprised me this season as the new Razorbacks QB, Arkansas stand no match for the Gators. Coming off their big win over 4th-ranked LSU, it will be Florida in a landslide.
#22 South Carolina @ #2 Alabama - A big SEC matchup as the Tide look to stay undefeated and very much in the National Championship hunt. You can’t count out SC when they have a quarterback like Stephen Garcia. Gamecocks will keep it close but I think the Tide will prevail.
#20 Oklahoma @ #3 Texas - The Red River Rivalry brings two teams that have had polar opposite seasons thus far. Oklahoma has fallen to BYU and Miami this year while Texas is still undefeated while being ranked third. As much as I would like to see an upset, Texas seems in control. Texas will stay undefeated after the Red River Rivalry.
#4 Virginia Tech @ #19 Georgia Tech - This is a game that interests me as Virginia Tech is looking to take control of the ACC and put themselves in a great position down the stretch for the National Championship. Georgia Tech is averaging 39 yards more per game in terms of offense. The key will be to see if VT could can stop the Jackets’ run game. For some reason, I have a feeling that this is Georgia Tech’s chance to upend one of the nation’s elite. Here is my upset pick, GT over VT.
#6 USC @ #25 Notre Dame - With one of the Heisman contenders, Notre Dame proves to be a tough match for the USC Trojans. USC dropped a game earlier this year to Washington but have somehow maneuvered there way back into the top 6. Notre Dame also has one loss and improves with each game under Jimmy Clausen. Even with Clausen, I think the Trojans prevail in a close game in South Bend.
#11 Iowa @ Wisconsin - Here is another upset waiting to happy this weekend as Iowa travels to Wisconsin to face a 5-1 Badger team. Iowa is undefeated through 6 games, but they have played down to competition such as Northern Iowa and Arkansas State. On the flip side, Wisconsin’s one loss was a dreadful one to Ohio State 31-13. I have Wisconsin at home to take down the Hawkeyes.
Missouri @ #16 Oklahoma State - As Missouri tries to rebound from their loss to Nebraska, Oklahoma State is starting to hit their stride by winning 3 straight, outscoring their opponents 133-61. The Cowboys only loss was to then unranked Houston. Missouri will have to get the running game going as they are ranked 76th in the country in rushing yards per game. My pick has Missouri dropping their second loss in a row in conference play, giving the victory to Oklahoma State.
