Redman Conquers Red Zone in Win Over Chargers

Facing 4th-and-goal from the San Diego 5-yard line, Chris Redman faced a Charger blitz, but managed to find Eric Weems for an Atlanta touchdown with 9 seconds left in regulation. Redman, who also scored a touchdown on a ten-yard run, finished the game completing 15 of 19 passes for 134 yards and the one touchdown to Weems.

Earlier in the drive prior to Redman’s touchdown pass, Atlanta had faced a 4th-and-5 at the Chargers’ 17-yard line, but Redman found Troy Bergeron for 10 yards to keep the drive alive. Bergeron finished the game catching 3 passes for 29 yards.

Atlanta starter Matt Ryan was 14-of-20 passing for 140 yards, throwing one touchdown pass to Brian Finneran in the 1st quarter.

San Diego’s Philip Rivers engineered two touchdown drives in his first three possessions; both touchdowns ended on runs by Darren Sproles and Michael Bennett. Rivers finished the game completing 10 of 15 passes for 185 yards.

Billy Volek took the next set of snaps for San Diego, completing a touchdown pass to Malcom Floyd late in the first half. Volek finished the game 7-of-9 passing for 102 yards and the one touchdown pass.

Jason Elam was successful on both of his field goal attempts for Atlanta while Chargers kicker Nate Kaeding was just 1-for-2 on his attempts.
