Glen Davis Signs Two-Year Deal with Boston
The Boston Celtics have re-signed forward Glen “Big Baby” Davis to a two-year contract that could pay $6 million. At the very least, Davis will make $5 million; he may also earn an additional $500,000 per year.
“Glen has been a big part of our success for the past two years and we are very excited to have him back,” said Danny Ainge, Celtics President of Basketball Operations.
At 6′9″, 289 lbs, Davis has spent two seasons with Boston. Davis stepped up big for the Celtics when he filled in for the injured Kevin Garnett in the 2009 playoffs. During the 2008-2009 regular season, he averaged 7 points per game and 4 rebounds per game. In the playoffs, Davis averaged 15.8 points per game and 5.6 rebounds per game.
“Glen really came into his own last season in the second half when he got a chance to play,” Ainge said. “He wants to play. Just like all young players, he wants a more significant role.”
Davis will become an unrestricted free agent after the 2010-2011 NBA season.
Boston has also signed free agent Shelden Williams on Monday. Williams, who will be 26 years old by opening night, will be added to a frontcourt that broke down during the playoffs.
