Thrashers re-sign Jim Slater
According to Executive Vice President and General Manager Don Waddell, the Atlanta Thrashers have re-signed restricted free agent Jim Slater. While terms of the deal were not disclosed per team policy, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Slater accepted an offer good for one year.
The 26-year old forward from Petosky, Michigan scored 31 goals and added 39 assists in 274 career NHL games during his four years with Atlanta. Slater added eight goals and ten assists in sixty games during the 2008-2009 season; he missed twenty games due to injury. Two of Slater’s goals scored this past season were shorthanded, good for second on the team.
Prior to playing in the National Hockey League, Slater played four seasons of NCAA hockey at Michigan State University from 2001 to 2005; in his collegiate career, he scored 64 goals and added 108 assists in 157 games. He also represented the United States in International Competition twice: one in the 2001 World Junior Championship, and the other in the 2006 World Championship.
