In what may become one of the biggest trades completed in recent memory, word is beginning to spread that the Boston Red Sox are in the process of planning a super deal that would send catcher Victor Martinez and reigning Cy Young Cliff Lee to Beantown.  While unconfirmed, Joel Sherman of the New York Post states that the rumors may very well be true.

In his report, Sherman states that the Sox are a bit hesitant to deal Clay Buchholz, but may do so if the opportunity to acquire the two superstars arises.  Also in on the deal may be the Tampa Bay Rays, who seem intrigued about swinging a deal in order to be contenders in the American League East.

The Sox, however, appear to have the most to offer to the cellar-bound Indians, and feel that a deal of this proportion could greatly shake up the entire American League, as well as the rival New York Yankees.

As mentioned, the reports are unconfirmed and strictly rumors at this point, but it should be noted that the Sox have been “trying to pull off something huge” for a few days now.

We will have more as we learn more information.

I like the sound of this. We can put Smoltz in the bullpen and Lee inserts right into the rotation. I’d like to see anybody win a five-game playoff series vs. the Sox if this happens. Beckett, Lester, Lee makes arguably the best big three in baseball. How long is Cliff under contract?

  2. Carmine says:

Well I think his contract expires this year but I believe he has a club option for next season.

  3. not a sox fan anyone who knows me all yanks baby so sox can do what they want but we’re going to beat them baby

  4. Carmine says:

What a cocky, biased comment. All you can expect from most Yankees fans these days. Well we will see how it plays out, and when the season’s over I’ll remember your arrogance.
