Federer Becomes Father of Twins
Professional tennis player Roger Federer became the father of twin girls when his wife Mirka gave birth to them on Thursday. They named the babies Charlene Riva and Myla Rose.
Federer released the news on his personal web site and Facebook page: “I have some exciting news to share with you. Late last night, in Switzerland, Mirka and I became proud parents of twin girls.”
“They are both healthy, and along with their mother they are doing great,” he also added on his Facebook page. “This is the best day of our lives.”
Federer announced Mirka’s pregnancy in March, and the couple got married in April. They met at the 2000 Sydney Olympics while playing tennis for Switzerland.
More than 1,500 fans sent congratulations to his web site. “Here comes the future tennis players,” said one fan. “Wait 15 to 20 years. The Williams sisters will look like a joke compared to the Federer sisters,” said another.
Earlier this month, Mirka sat courtside at the Wimbledon to see her husband win his 15th grand slam title, which broke the record held by Pete Sampras.
