Edmonton Eskimos 38 Saskatchewan Roughriders 33
Down 22 to 0 in the second quarter, the Edmonton Eskimos stormed back to defeat the Saskatchewan Roughriders by a score of 38 to 33 on a day when the Roughriders honored their 1989 Grey Cup championship team, of which Eskimos head coach Richie Hall was a part of.
“I thought the fans would be happy and I was happy to see them because I spent a lot of years here so it was tough … but this win wasn’t for me, it was for the team,” said Hall.
Arkee Whitlock’s 18-yard rushing touchdown capped the comeback and lifted Edmonton to Win #2 of the season. As for the Roughriders, they fell to 2-2.
Edmonton quarterback Ricky Ray completed 23 of 32 passes for 247 yards, but threw one pass to Saskatchewan’s Lance Frazier. Saskatchewan’s Darian Durant went 20-of-36 for 238 yards, throwing one touchdown strike to Wes Cates; Durant also ran in a touchdown for Saskatchewan.
Calvin McCarty ran the ball nine times for 76 yards, finding the goal area twice. Whitlock finished the game with 63 yards on 13 carries.
