Breaking News: Hedo Heading to Toronto

Big breaking news coming in this early 4th of July morning, as ESPN is reporting that former Magic G/F Hedo Turkoglu has agreed to a multi-year deal with the Toronto Raptors.  The contract is reportedly worth around 5 years/$55 million. This will put the Raptors just below the cap limit.

Early in the day, it had been reported that Hedo had agreed to a deal with the Portland Trailblazers, who had planned to plug him in alongside Brandon Roy and Greg Oden.  However, despite verbally agreeing, Turkoglu decided a better fit would be in the Eastern Conference, which is significantly less competitive than the Western Conference.

The signing will undoubtedly give F Chris Bosh, who is in his contract year, a chance to win a championship.  With the addition of Hedo, who threw in 16.8 ppg for the Eastern Conference champion Orlando Magic, Bosh will be able to dominate the paint as he has in years past with some assistance as well.  He is predicted to be one of the key free agents of the class of 2010.

Turkoglu’s former team, the Magic, will plan to move forward with the recently-acquired Vince Carter.  Though he may not be able to fill the void, the team plans to move forward with their current line-up under coach Stan Van Gundy.

We will have more on this story as we learn more details.
