Blackhawks Reassign GM Tallon; Becomes Senior Advisor
This has been a very rough offseason for Dale Tallon.
The Chicago Blackhawks have decided to remove Dale Tallon from the position of general manager and make him a senior advisor of hockey operations. Stan Bowman, son of legendary coach and another of Chicago’s senior advisors, Scotty Bowman, becomes general manager.
Tallon had been scrutinized this offseason when it was reported that 5 of Chicago’s restricted free agents did not receive their qualifying offers before free agency began July 1st at 12 noon EST. The offers were not sent properly to the players or their agents being sent via mail courrier. All five of these players re-signed with Chicago which included young stars Cam Barker and Kris Versteeg.
Tallon has also been criticized by the public for the 12-year deal he gave to Marian Hossa and the deals he gave to Brian Campbell and Cristobal Huet from the offseason before.
Tallon became GM in 2005 and drafted young superstars Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews. This past season, he was able to bring Chicago to the playoffs for the first time since 2002, losing in the conference final to the Detroit Red Wings.
