Yao Ming May Miss 2009-2010 NBA Season
Houston Rockets All-Star Center Yao Ming had been nursing a foot injury since May. It was originally believed that Yao, who suffered a hairline fracture of the tarsal navicular bone of his left foot, would be out eight to twelve weeks. However, after conducting a bone scan last week, doctors noticed that the fracture wasn’t healing properly. As a result, doctors believe that Yao might have to miss all of next season…or worse…end his NBA career.
Houston Rockets team physician Tom Clanton said that Yao’s injury “has the potential for him missing this next season and could be career-threatening.”
“We are not going to comment until we have all the facts,” said Rockets general manager Daryl Morey.
Yao missed 21 games during the 2005-06 season because of an infection in his left big toe; he also broke a bone in his left foot with four games left in the regular season. He broke his right leg during the 2006-07 season and missed 32 games. He suffered a stress fracture in his left foot in 2007-08 and missed the playoffs.
