Just another day on this ongoing saga of if and when Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo will be traded. The latest rumor has him ending up in Memphis along with teammate Brian Scalabrine. The deal would bring forward Rudy Gay and guard Mike Conley Jr. to Boston as well.
Is this just Danny Ainge blowing smoke again, or does he really want to deal his young star? So this begs the question: What did Rondo do to make Ainge not like him?
Rajon Rondo has blossomed into one of the best assist men in the NBA. Of course, when you have three perennial All-Stars running the court with you, it is not too difficult. However, Rondo grew this year both in experience and his playing ability. Rondo is what makes the Boston Celtics run. Not Kevin Garnett or Paul Pierce or Ray Allen. He is an intricate part of the team’s success, and without him the Celtics just are not the same team.
In a press conference earlier today Celtics GM Danny Ainge said that Rondo needs to grow up. The team says that he would be late for practices and playoff games. While that is quite egregious, Rondo is still very young and has a fantastic amount of upside. So what is the point in dealing such a young stud?
No one can be certain if Rondo will be dealt by tomorrow or at all this off-season, but with the daily soap opera of rumors, one can only imagine. This is one Celtics fan who says look at that championship ring, because without Rondo, you have no ring Celtics.
