According to ESPNEWS, the Cleveland Cavaliers are close to completing a deal that would send F/C Ben Wallace and G Sasha Pavlovic to the Phoenix Suns in exchange for NBA Superstar Shaquille O’Neal.  If the Suns were to then cut Wallace and Pavlovic, it could potentially save the team up to $9 million in cap space.

The trade would undoubtedly shake up the foundations of the NBA from the inside-out.  O’Neal, 37, would be making his return to the Eastern Conference, where he and Dwayne Wade led the Miami Heat to a championship against the then-powerhouse Dallas Mavericks.  The idea of Shaq playing with LeBron would undoubtedly be enticing for players and fans alike, and would contribute only more to the growing basketball city that is Cleveland.

Shaquille averaged 17.8 points per game in 2008-2009, while throwing in 8.4 rebounds per game as well.  His Suns missed out on the playoffs, finishing two games behind the 8th place Utah Jazz.

We will have more as the news breaks.

Even if this goes through, Shaq is way past his prime, and the Cavs will not come any closer to winning a championship.

    I agree with Joe

  3. Jon Alba says:

It’s definitely interesting as to what will happen. He could be a great post presence in terms of rebounding.
