Just like last year’s Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals, the Pittsburgh Penguins scored two goals. Unlike last year, two goals was good enough to force a Game 7. With a 2-1 victory over the Detroit Red Wings, the Pittsburgh Penguins did what they weren’t able to do last year, force a Game 7.

Jordan Staal and Tyler Kennedy scored goals to lift the Penguins to their third win of the Stanley Cup finals. Kris Draper scored the lone goal for the Red Wings.

Pittsburgh netminder Marc-Andre Fleury made 25 saves on 26 shots, outdueling Detroit’s Chris Osgood, who stopped just 29 of 31 shots.

Game 7 will be played on Friday night in Detroit, Michigan. This will be the 5th Game 7 in a Stanley Cup Finals in this decade alone (2001, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2009).

Fast Fact:

The home team has won the last six Game 7s of the Stanley Cup Finals. Who was the last road team to win a Game 7 in the Stanley Cup Finals? 1971 Montreal Canadiens, who defeated the Chicago Blackhawks by a score of 3 to 2. Just like this year’s series, the home team won the first six games of that series.
