Washington Capitals 3 Pittsburgh Penguins 2 - The Capitals struck first blood in the first chapter of the newly-revived Ovechkin/Crosby rivalry. Sidney Crosby and Alexander Ovechkin both scored goals in the first period, but it was Washington’s Tomas Fleischmann who netted the winning goal for the Capitals. Rookie goaltender Simeon Varlamov made 34 saves on 36 shots; his most impressive save in the game was this save made late in the second period:

David Steckel scored the other goal for Washington while Mark Eaton scored Pittsburgh’s second goal of the game. Check out the highlights of the game:

Chicago Blackhawks 6 Vancouver Canucks 3 - Sami Salo and Alexander Edler scored to give Vancouver a 2-0 lead after the first period. Not wanting to be down by that same score in the series, the Chicago Blackhawks stormed back with 3 goals in the 2nd and 3 goals in the 3rd to win by 3 goals. Patrick Sharp scored the first two goals for Chicago. Dave Bolland also scored twice for Chicago while Ben Eager and Patrick Kane each scored one goal.
