Detroit Red Wings 3 Anaheim Ducks 2 – Nicklas Lidstrom scored two goals to lift his Red Wings to a 3-2 victory over the Ducks in Game 1 of this best-of-seven series. Lidstrom scored his first goal 14:24 into the second period on the power play to give the Wings a 2-1 lead. Teemu Selanne scored with 17 seconds left in the second period to tie the game at two after period two. However, Lidstrom’s second goal of the game with 49.1 seconds left in regulation helped Detroit take Game 1. Johan Franzen scored the other goal for Detroit.
Boston Bruins 4 Carolina Hurricanes 1 – Marc Savard found the net twice as the Bruins took Game 1 against the Hurricanes. Michael Ryder and David Krejci also scored for Boston, who, like the Red Wings, have won their fifth consecutive game in this year’s playoffs. Tim Thomas made 26 saves on 27 Carolina shots; Jussi Jokinen was the only Hurricane to beat Thomas during the game. But given the fact that the Hurricanes have won their last four playoff series when losing the first game, a comeback may be imminent.
