The Atlanta Braves placed Omar Infante and Jo-Jo Reyes on the 15-day DL on Thursday. The Braves called up two rookies to replace them: right-handed pitcher Kris Medlen and infielder Diory Hernandez, both from Triple-A Gwinnett.

Medlen started last night’s game against Colorado. He did pretty well until he reached the fourth inning, where the Rockies scored five runs. In that inning, 15 of Medlen’s 18 pitches were balls. Atlanta ended up getting shut out 9-0.

Infante broke a bone in his left hand against Colorado on Wednesday night. He got hit by a pitch from Manny Corpas, which ended up breaking his fifth metacarpal. He is expected to be out for at least six weeks. He is expected to have surgery today.

Infante made 14 starts as a leadoff hitter so far this season. Wednesday night, he had two hits to bring his batting average up to .349. He also has one home run and 11 RBIs this year.

Reyes strained his right hamstring the other day. He is 0-2 with a 7.00 ERA in six games, five of which were starts. Lefty batters have a .156 batting average while right-handed batters have a .310 average against him.
