The Detroit Red Wings got off to a hot start in their playoff series against the Chicago Blackhawks. The 20,066 fans in attendance at Joe Louis Arena saw the Red Wings drop five goals on Chicago to take a 1-0 series lead.
The Blackhawks got off to a good start when Adam Burish scored the first goal of the game 5:25 into the first period. However, Daniel Cleary’s equalizer three minutes later leveled the game at one after period one.
Johan Franzen scored his 9th goal of the postseason to give Detroit a 2-1 lead after two.
The Blackhawks didn’t back down as Kris Versteeg’s power play goal tied the game up at two early in the third period. However, Chicago was no match for Detroit as Mikael Samuelsson and Daniel Cleary scored 87 seconds apart to give Detroit a 4-2 lead midway through the third. Henrik Zetterberg added an empty-netter to seal the victory for the Red Wings.
Game Two of this series will be played on Tuesday night in Detroit.
