It was the Brad Boyes/Chris Mason show at Pepsi Arena in Denver, Colorado as the 13,661 fans in attendance witnessed the final game of the NHL regular season between the St. Louis Blues and Colorado Avalanche.
Prior to the start of this game, the Blues were standing in 8th place and needed a win to take over 6th place in the West, which was held by Columbus. Boyes and Mason teamed up to bump the Blue Jackets out of 6th place.
Boyes scored the lone goal of the game 6 minutes into the game with assists from Andy McDonald and Jay McKee. Boyes’ shot from the left circle beat Avalanche goalie Andrew Raycroft, giving the 26-year old from Mississauga, Ontario his team-leading 33rd goal of the year. Boyes also ended the season with 39 assists for a grand total of 72 points, 21 of which were scored in the last 19 games of the season.
St. Louis goalie Chris Mason was phenomenal in net as he stopped all 28 Colorado shots for his sixth shutout of the season. Raycroft finished the day making 16 saves on 17 shots.
With this win, the Blues finish the season with a record of 41-31-10. St. Louis heads into the playoffs with a three-game winning streak; the Blues have won 9 of their last 11 games.
