Olympic Champion in Car Crash
Usain Bolt, an Olympic champion sprinter, was involved in a car crash on Wednesday in Jamaica. He walked away from the car with only a few scratches.
Bolt, 22, and an unidentified female passenger were taken to a hospital in Spanish Town after the crash. No one was seriously hurt.
Bolt was driving a BMW M3 on a rain-slicked road when he lost control and ran off the road. The BMW was given to him by his sponsor Puma for his performance at the 2008 Olympics. Police Sergeant David Sheriff was the first policeman to arrive at the scene of the crash when he found the car heavily damaged.
The track star has only a few scratches from thorn bushes when he stepped out of the car. Bolt’s manager Norman Peart said, “We are very relieved he’s OK. Everybody is fine.”
Bolt, nicknamed “Lightning Bolt,” set many records in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. He holds the world record for the 100 meters at 9.69 seconds. He also holds the world record for the 200 meters at 19.30 seconds. He and his teammates hold the 4×100 meter relay at 37.10 seconds.
