Washington Capitals 5 New York Rangers 3 - Rangers coach John Tortorella was suspended for Game 6 because of a confrontation with the Capitals’ fans in Game 5; Tortorella squirted water at a fan and threw the water bottle into the crowd. Tortorella was forced to watch the game from a suite high above the ice. As a result, the Rangers were victimized by Washington’s offensive attacks, which beat Henrik Lundqvist 5 times to force a Game 7. Milan Jurcina, Mike Green, Tom Poti, Viktor Kozlov, and Alexander Ovechkin all scored goals to help Washington send the series back to Verizon Center.

Carolina Hurricanes 4 New Jersey Devils 0 - The other Southeast representative in the playoffs also managed to force a Game 7 in their respective playoff series. Eric Staal found the Devils’ net twice while Ray Whitney and Jussi Jokinen each scored once to help Carolina send the series back to New Jersey. Cam Ward made 28 saves on 28 shots to earn the shutout.
