NHL Norris Trophy Finalists Announced

To keep rolling along with yesterday’s announcement for the finalists for the Calder trophy, the league released today the finalists for the Norris Trophy, given to the top defenseman in the regular season. The three players vying for the award this year are Boston Bruins, Zdeno Chara, Detroit Red Wings, Niklas Lidstrom and Washington Capitals, Mike Green.

Chara, 32, played 80 games this season scoring a career high 19 goals to go along with 31 assists. The six-foot-nine defenseman also has a plus-23 rating to go with his impressive season.

The NHL Award Ceremony will be held June 18th in Las Vegas.

Lidstrom, 38, will be trying for his 7th Norris trophy in 8 seasons. The veteran had 16 goals, 43 assists and a plus-31 rating in 78 games.

Green, 23, led all defensemen in goals (31) and points (73) with a plus-24 rating in 68 games. Green is the seventh defenseman to ever score 30 goals in a season the last player that did so was another Capital, Kevin Hatcher, in 1992-1993.
