Milan Lucic Suspended One Game
Boston Bruins forward Milan Lucic has been suspended one game by the National Hockey League for a cross check on Montreal’s Maxim Lapierre during the third period of Game 2 against the Montreal Canadiens.
NHL senior executive vice president of hockey operations Colin Campbell said, “while it is unclear whether Lucic’s glove or stick makes contact with Lapierre, what is clear is that he delivered a reckless and forceful blow to the head of his opponent.”
The hit ignited another brawl on the ice between the two rivals.
Lucic was issued a match penalty and will miss Game 3 on Monday night when Montreal hosts Boston.
Lucic, a 6-foot-4, 220-pound forward, scored 17 goals and added 25 assists for a grand total of 42 points during the regular season; he also added 136 penalty minutes to his resumé.
The 20-year old from Vancouver, B.C. is the second player to be suspended during this year’s Stanley Cup playoffs; the first was Philadelphia’s Daniel Carcillo who sat out one game for a shot to the head of Maxime Talbot during the first game of the series between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers.
