Louisville 61 Oklahoma 59
While the Men’s team is out of their tournament, the Lady Cardinals of Louisville have advanced to the championship game with a thrilling come-from-behind victory against the Oklahoma Lady Sooners.
Down 12 points at the half, Louisville stormed back with a 15-1 run as the Sooners couldn’t find the basket; Oklahoma shot 26.9% from the field in the second half. Nevertheless, the Sooners had a chance to win the game at the end when Nyeshia Stevenson went for a three at the buzzer. Unfortunately, for Stevenson and her Oklahoma teammates, the ball rattled out, and the Lady Cardinals found themselves in the Championship game.
“In my head, it was going in,” said Stevenson. “I knew I was wide open. I was confident every second.”
The Louisville Lady Cardinals will take on top-ranked and unbeaten Connecticut Lady Huskies in the championship game, which will be played on Tuesday at 8:30 PM EST. In their Final Four matchup, Connecticut defeated Stanford by a score of 83 to 64.
Earlier in the season, four-time All-American Courtney Paris said that she would pay back the cost of her four-year scholarship if her Oklahoma Sooners didn’t win the championship. After the game, Paris left the court in tears.
“I do make good on the guarantee,” said Courtney, daughter of former NFL offensive lineman Bubba Paris. “Not today, though. Obviously, I don’t have $64,000 waiting, but I do make good on it.”
