2 goals by Patrik Berglund. 22 saves from Chris Mason. That’s all St. Louis needed to shutout Los Angeles in front of 19,150 at Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri. With a 2-0 victory over the Kings, the Blues improved to 34-30-9 while the Kings fell to 30-33-10.
The score was deadlocked at zero for the first two periods, but when David Perron teed up a shot that missed the net, the puck ricocheted off the board and onto the stick of Patrik Berglund, who then tapped it in the empty side of the net to give the Blues a 1-0 lead. Five minutes later, T.J. Oshie’s shot trickled through Kings goalie Jonathan Quick, and Berglund swatted the puck underneath a defenseman for his second goal of the game.
Chris Mason was phenomenal between the pipes for St. Louis. Making his 24th straight start, he made half of his saves in the first period when his Blues were only able to muster four on Jonathan Quick. Seven of Mason’s saves in the first period occurred when his team was shorthanded.
