Breaking News: Alex Rodriguez out 10 weeks

by Jon Alba on Thursday, March 5th, 2009

Big breaking news coming out of MLB, on the first day of the World Baseball Classic no less.  Alex Rodriguez, the Third Baseman for the New York Yankees as well as the Dominican Republic team in the WBC, will miss ten weeks of action after surgery on his hip.

The operation was done to remove a cyst from the area, and the ten weeks of recovery time will be used to ensure no infection results.  I myself have had a cyst removed from the wrist, in which it took six weeks to completely recover.

The surgery obviously puts Rodriguez out of the World Baseball Classic, as he will also miss the Yankees opening of the new Yankee Stadium.  He is expected to return sometime in early May, as it could greatly impace his overall performance this season.

This information came from his brother, so await confirmation from the Yankees before going out on a limb.

If this is true, some fantasy players are going to be pretty upset. Yankees have yet to confirm this, so let’s hope the recovery time is less.
