Washington Capitals 5 Tampa Bay Lightning 1

Behind goals from Alexander Semin, Alexander Ovechkin, Shaone Morrisonn, Mike Green, and Eric Fehr, the Washington Capitals defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning by a score of 5 to 1 at St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa, Florida. With this victory, Washington improved to 35-16-5 on the season while Tampa fell to 19-26-11.

Ryan Malone scored the only goal for the Lightning 9:30 into the second period with Vincent Lecavalier getting credit for an assist.

As mentioned in a previous post, Mike Green set an NHL record for consecutive games with a goal by a defenseman. He scored Washington’s 4th goal of the game on the power play 5:33 into the middle period. The previous record was held by Boston’s Mike O’Connell, who scored in seven straight games during the 1983-84 season.
