Free Agent SP Oliver Perez has re-signed with the New York Mets. The deal is 3 years, worth $36 Million.
The southpaw has been a part of the Mets since he was traded to New York from Pittsburgh in 2006 along with Roberto Hernandez for Xavier Nady. In 2007, his first full season as a Met and one of the best seasons of his career, Perez went 15-10 with 174 K and a 3.56 ERA in 29 games started. Last year, Perez started 34 games, yet only got the decision in half of them, and finished the season 10-7 with 180 K and a 4.22 ERA.
Despite a bit of a down year in 2008, Perez will be back and suiting up in blue and gold this year (and next year, and the year after). 2009 will be his 8th year in the big leagues, and Perez will turn 28 years old in August.
