While he did not win out for the head coaching job which may have peeved him a bit, Brian Schottenheimer has decided to stay along with the Jets under new head coach Rex Ryan. While Schottenheimer had reportedly thought of wanting out of New York, a passionate call by Rex Ryan, who was in a similar situation last year, convinced the offensive coordinator to stay on the New York sidelines.
In addition to Schottenheimer, Ryan has retained Bill Callahan, the offensive line coach (and my personal choice for who I wanted the Jets to hire), and special teams coordinator Mike Westhoff. Callahan has been praised by many for being the catalyst who gelled the o-line together last year which resulted in having Thomas Jones return to glory. Westhoff, a cancer survivor (missing part of the ’07 and ’08 season because of complications), will once again return to lead an explosive special teams unit which has been one of the strenghts of the Jets the past few years.
