With the NHL All-Star game coming this weekend, the NHL has established a rule that if you are selected as an all-star, you must participate in the game. This came into affect since players were opting out of the game for no good reason. If a player misses the all-star game, they will have to miss one regular season game either before or after the all-star break.
Currently, Detroit Red Wings, Nicklas Lidstrom and Pavel Datsuyk, are skipping the all-star game and will not play in their Tuesday game versus Columbus. Pittsburgh Penguins forward Sidney Crosby was also planning to skip the event because of precautionary reasons but instead take part in any all-star off-ice activities to avoid suspension.
Stupid…risk injury or rest. NHL wants you to risk injury? Come on let the guys rest and think about the second half of the season.
