Colon’s Back in Chi-Town
Bartolo Colon’s brief fling with the Boston Red Sox last year showed other teams how dominant he could be if he stayed healthy.
And the White Sox - once again - are willing to take that chance.
Colon has reportedly agreed to a one-year contract with the 36-year-old hurler. In his last stint with the White Sox in 2003, he went 15-13 with a 3.87 ERA. His dominance alongside Esteban Loaiza made the then all-slugging White Sox a force to be reckoned with on the mound as well. Although Bartolo claimed to enjoy his year in Chicago, he booked for the Los Angeles Angels’ four-year, $51 million deal out of free-agency. Colon managed to post a winning record in his first two seasons with them and even won the American League Cy Young Award in 2005, posting 21 victories. But his last two seasons with the Angels were off the charts.
And I mean fell off the charts.
Colon went 7-13 with a 5.90 ERA in his final two seasons with the Halos. Arm and elbow injuries plauged him throughout those two seasons. After his contract expired, he then went and signed a one-year, incentive laden deal with the Boston Red Sox. He didn’t do too badly, but those arm injuries cut his season short once again. He only made seven starts, going 4-2 with a 3.92 ERA.
And now the White Sox have him home again. If they get the Bartolo of old, expect them to become a force in the American League Central once again.
