Cubbies and O’s Exchange Prospects

by Nkwa Asonye on Monday, January 19th, 2009

Felix Pie just needed some time to get used to Major League pitching; but on the North Side of the Windy City, starving for a World Championship, time is precious.  Garret Olson just needed some time to pitch to big-league hitters; Baltimore has been out of time for years, though.  So what do you do when time runs out for two separate players?

Well, they trade places.

Felix Pie is now an Oriole; Garrett Olson, a Cub. Plain and simple.

With an outfield that now contains Milton Bradley, Alfonso Soriano, Kosuke Fukudome, Reed Johnson, and Joey Gathright, there was no room for a prospect that just couldn’t hit yet.  And because the Orioles had a mess of pitchers – and I mean a MESS – including a very promising Japanese pro named Koji Uehara, Garrett Olson would most likely have had a spot in Triple-A to begin the season.

This could go down in history as a really good – or really bad – trade.  But for now, it’s just a mid-January deal.

Can’t exactly say I’m excited for him to be in the AL East…

Not going to help the O’s at all tho. They will still come in last b/c they play in a division with 4 better teams
