For the first time since 1982, the Vanderbilt Commodores played in a bowl game. For the first time since 1955, the Vanderbilt Commodores have won a bowl game.
Behind three field goals fom Bryant Hahnfeldt, the Commodores have defeated the Boston College Eagles by a score of 16 to 14 at LP Field in Nashville, Tennessee. Hanfeldt kicked the game-winning 45-yard field goal with 3:26 left in the 4th quarter to put the Commodores up by two points.
Vanderbilt’s Larry Smith completed 10 of 16 passes for 121 yards while Boston College’s Dominique Davis went 15-of-36 for 190 yards, throwing two touchdowns, but also throwing just as many interceptions.
With this win, Vanderbilt finished with a record of 7-6, achieving their first winning season since 1982. As for Boston College, they finished with a record of 9-5, falling one win short of a third consecutive ten-win seasons.
