well when say change history , to me in that it has a tremendous impact where we are at today

for the NFL , there are 2 to me – right now watching the Colts – Giants 1958 title game , Colts winning in OT , they are calling it the greatest game ever played

But it was the game that really drew a lot of people into football and put it on the map as baseball was the dominate sport at that time

Joe Namath and Jets winning Super Bowl III is up there too as the NFL dominated AFL in the first 2 Super Bowls and there was a good chance if this continued, in Super Bowl III and IV , all the teams and the AFL would eventually fold. Thus losing a lot of teams we have today. Chiefs also dominating Super Bowl IV helped the AFL. Then the merger the following year between the two leagues.

  5. willneverbackdown says:

for MLB , I believe Jackie Robinson becoming the first black player in MLB changed history as it allowed for more black players into baseball

With some great players after him like Hank Aaron and Willie Mays , would been a shame if they never got the chance like players before Robinson like Josh Gibson

I think the list has a lot of great moments , but I think of it as I looked through the list

Did this event change the way or the situation that particular sport is looked at today

  10. willneverbackdown says:

To add to the 1958 title game between Colts and Giants I just watched a 2 hour program on

Lamar Hunt was at that game and inspired him to create the AFL as the NFL had only 12 teams

Both Vince Lombardi and Tom Landry were assistant coaches on the Giants , and we all know where these guys ended up

Weeb Ewbank was the head coach of the 1958 Colts , also was the head coach of the New York Jets in Super Bowl III

Talking about 1 game or moment influencing change and history of a sport
