Red Sox Acquire P Ramon Ramirez

The Boston Red Sox have traded OF Coco Crisp to the Kansas City Royals for RHP Ramon Ramirez.

Ramirez was brought up in the New York Yankees farm system. He was traded to the Colorado Rockies and then to the Royals. Ramirez broke a Colorado Rockies record for most scoreless innings to begin a career with 15 1/3 in his 2006 rookie season. Ramirez was a key player in the Royals bullpen in 2008. In 71 appearances, he struck out 70 batters, averaging almost a strikeout per inning pitched. He had a 3-2 record with a 2.64 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP. The Boston bullpen had been struggling late in the 2008 season, and Ramirez will be a fine addition.

Meanwhile, Coco Crisp was unhappy in Boston because he had to share Center Field with the young Jacoby Ellsbury. In 2008 Crisp batted .283 with 7 HR and 41 RBI. He is also known well for his great speed, and stole 20 bases.

I'm also a fan of the Patriots, Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins, and Boston College football & basketball. I live a few miles away from Gillete Stadium and my family holds season tickets to the Patriots, and I also go to Fenway Park a few times a year. Because of the recent success of my teams, I've been criticized as a bandwagon fan plenty of times. That is false; win or lose, I have always and will always love my teams. I am knowledgeable about sports and follow them well, and that's why I'm here.

  1. this stinks

  2. I happen to think we could have gotten more for Coco, but we’ll see how this works out, we do need bullpen help.

  3. Matt I’d advise you consider not swearing, as you can see my Grandma saw it. But yeah we could have gotten more for Coco, while I do like the idea of sending him to a farm team so he can think about whether he should have complained.

  4. hopefully ellsbury can step it up. i know he’s capable of being amazing but its unfortunate that he had to fall into a giant slump the end of last season… :\

  5. Ellsbury just needs to learn how to hit a damn breaking ball. He strikes out every time he sees one. Once he can hit breaking balls or tell that theyll end up out of the strikezone, he’ll be fine.

  6. true that. ellsbury has the potential to do tremendously. i’d love to see him do well :]
