Kansas 40 Missouri 37
The starting quarterback found the backup quarterback twice in the last five minutes of the 4th quatter as the Kansas Jayhawks defeated the Missouri Tigers by a score of 40 to 37. With this thrilling victory over Missouri, Kansas achieved back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 1994-1995 as well as back-to-back non-losing seasons in conference play for the first time since 1980-81.
Missouri kicker Jeff Wolfert actually had a chance to tie the game at the end of the 4th quarter with a 54-yard field goal, but his kick was partially blocked by the Jayhawks defense.
Kansas quarterback Todd Reesing completed 37 of 51 passes for 375 yards and four touchdowns, including two to backup quarterback Kerry Meier. However, Reesing threw two passes to the Missouri defense. Missouri’s Chase Daniel went 25-of-41 for 288 yards. Just like Reesing, Daniel threw for four touchdowns, but was picked off twice.
With 6:52 left in the 4th quarter, Chase Coffman caught a 6-yard touchdown pass from Chase Daniel to give Missouri a 30-26 lead after having trailed 26-10 with ten minutes left in the 4th quarter. Then, Reesing found Meier with 4:26 left to give the Jayhawks a 33-30 lead. Derrick Washington was not to be denied as his 6-yard march into the endzone gave Missouri their 4-point lead back. With 30 seconds to go, Kansas faced a 4th-and-7. Reesing managed to scramble his way out of the pocket and find Kerry Meier in the open field for the winning touchdown.
