Saskatchewan Roughriders 37 Calgary Stampeders 34
Behind two touchdowns from running back Neal Hughes, the Saskatchewan Roughriders have defeated the Calgary Stampeders by a score of 37 to 34 in front of 30,945 at Mosaic Stadium in Regina. The Roughriders, who improved their record to 9-5, saw their three-game losing streak come to an end.
Even though the Calgary Stampeders lost, they still had something to celebrate: a spot in the playoffs. With Toronto losing to the Lions earlier on Friday, the 9-5 Stampeders clinched a playoff spot. Even though Calgary and Toronto play in different divisions, Toronto would not make the playoffs if Calgary finished last in the East because of the crossover rule.
Chris Getzlaf, the older brother of Anaheim Ducks forward Ryan Getzlaf, also scored a touchdown for Saskatchwan on a nine-yard pass. Defensive end Kitwana Jones recovered a fumble and returned the ball 15 yards for another Roughrider touchdown.
Roughriders QB Michael Bishop completed 20 of 27 passes for 242 yards and the one touchdown to Chris Getzlaf. Darian Durant also took a few snaps for Saskatchewan, going 2-for-4 for 43 yards. Neal Hughes carried the ball 9 times for 29 yards, finding the goal area twice.
Calgary’s Henry Burris went 29-of-45 for 311 yards, throwing a touchdown to Ken-Yon Rambo and another to Ryan Thelwell. However, he threw one pass to 2007 Grey Cup MVP James Johnson.
Stampeders kicker Sandro DeAngelis converted on 4-of-4 field goals as well as three converts while Luca Congi converted on 3-of-4 field goals and four converts.
