With a 3-1 victory over the Chicago Cubs, the Los Angeles Dodgers have punched their ticket into the NLCS, where they will face the winner of the NLDS series between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Milwaukee Brewers.
James Loney’s 2-run double with two outs in the bottom of the first inning was all Los Angeles needed to sweep the Cubs, who have failed to win the World Series for the 100th year in a row. Russell Martin drove in Rafael Furcal for the Dodgers’ 3rd and final run of the game.
Chicago scored their only run of the game in the 8th inning when Daryle Ward singled to center field, driving in Derrek Lee.
Hiroki Kuroda pitched 6.1 innings of baseball for the Dodgers, giving up 6 hits and 2 walks, but struck out four batters in the process. Kuroda earned the win while relief pitcher Jonathan Broxton got the save after pitching the last 1.1 innings of the game.
