Edmonton Eskimos 27 B.C. Lions 20
With a 27-20 win over the B.C. Lions on Friday night, the Edmonton Eskimos have showed that they still have hope for being the top team in the West Division. Eskimos QB Ricky Ray completed 23 of 35 passes for 311 yards, but threw one pass to B.C.’s LaVar Glover, who returned the interception for a touchdown. Ray’s patience and pin-point passing enabled him to penetrate the B.C. defense.
In addition, the Eskimos penetrated the Lions defense on the ground. Edmonton’s Calvin McCarty carried the ball 16 times for 70 yards, finding the endzone once. Ray ran the ball 6 times for 9 yards, scoring one touchdown as well. Mathieu Bertrand also scored on a 1-yard rushing touchdown for the Eskimos.
As for the Lions, Jarious Jackson and Buck Pierce shared QB duties. Jackson went 11-for-22 for 126 yards and one touchdown to Bret Anderson. Pierce completed 10 of 18 passes for 90 yards, but threw one interception to Edmonton’s Tristan Jackson.
Edmonton’s Noel Prefontaine converted on 2-of-3 field goals from 27 and 13 yards out. Lions kicker Paul McCallum went 2-for-2 in field goals, converting from 40 and 37 yards.
