Francisco Rodriguez Ties Record with 57th Save

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim closer Francisco Rodriguez has recorded his 57th save of the season, tying Bobby Thigpen’s major league record of most saves in a season as the Angels defeated the Seattle Mariners by a score of 7 to 4. Having already clinched the AL West title on Wednesday, this would be another monumental milestone for the club as K-Rod has just 16 games left to break Thigpen’s record.

Replacing Scot Shields in the 9th inning, Francisco Rodriguez forced Ichiro Suzuki to ground into a double play. He recorded the last out of the game on a Raul Ibanez broken-bat ground ball to first base, but not before the Mariners got another run off a Jeremy Reed RBI single.

This save gives K-Rod 203 in his career, and at the young age of 26, who knows how many he’ll end up with by the time he retires?
