Chris Wells Won’t Play on Saturday

On Thursday, Ohio State coach Jim Tressel announced that running back Chris “Beanie” Wells, currently recovering from a right foot injury, will not play Saturday against Troy. As if that wasn’t bad enough news for the Buckeyes, Tressel still hasn’t named a starting quarterback for that game.

After Wells practiced on Wednesday, Tressel said that things were going better this week than last week, but Wells’ foot was too sore to to practicing on consecutive days.

Tressel said, “I think he’s making progress. I can’t promise exactly when he’ll be back, but I felt a little bit better after yesterday than I felt at the end of last week.”

Tressel does not even know if Wells will be able to play the next week against the Minnesota Golden Gophers.

As for the Buckeyes’ quarterback situation, freshman Terrelle Pryor tok about 60% of the snaps in practice this week. He and senior Todd Boeckman will probably share quarterback duties this Saturday.
