Report: Sakic To Announce Playing Future
Reports indicate that Joe Sakic has scheduled a press conference with the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday to announce his intentions on playing or retiring next season. If Sakic plays next season, it is most definitely with the Colorado Avalanche. The long-time Avalanche captain has been the franchise’s only leader since the relocation from Quebec to Colorado. Sakic also was the captain previous to the relocation. The heart and soul of the Avalanche has led the team to two Stanley Cups and is known as one of the most classiest players of today.
But what if he retires?
Sources indicate if Sakic does announce his retirement, the Avalanche will jump into the Mats Sundin sweepstakes. This does not sound as far-fetched as it seems seeing as the Quebec/Colorado franchise is the only other team Sundin has played for besides the Toronto Maple Leafs. Colorado would have it tough with teams like the Rangers, Flyers, Canucks, Maple Leafs, Canadiens and Red Wings all trying to buy for the services of the veteran centre. Of course, if Sundin also decides to retire, that would be a huge blow to teams who waited on Sundin instead of putting the money offered on other free agents back in July.
Also on the Colorado front, Peter Forsberg is skating again in Sweden. This is positive for Forsberg who has had to battle with foot injuries over the last few seasons. Do not expect Forsberg though to be ready for the beginning of the season, but a comeback around Christmas does make sense.

Well it’s about time Joe. What are you gonna do? Colorado? Or retirement papers?
Chuck: Hey this is my series, I’m the one who asks the questions around here.
Mike: But you leave for Greed before the next episode starts.
Chuck: Nice job spoiling your intro for the next love connection article, Mike.
Mike: Oops.
